Jogging vs. HIIT?

Everybody says the answer to fat loss is jogging 45 mins everyday. What is the substitute amount for HIIT to burn the same number of calories?

Is it better to run/jog for 45 mins everyday, or to do HIIT 15-20 mins every other day (or even everyday)?

Or is it better to alternate (one day jog 45 mins, one day HIIT for 15-20)?

Want to lose some extra fat (about 1-2 lbs a week) and still hold on to some muscle. Some specific numbers on time etc. could help, thanks.

Note: On a pretty healthy diet already
HIIT = High intensity interval training.

Never heard of HIIT.
