Hunting Season Poem…Care to Read?
“The Ugly Side of Fall”
The leaves have finally all blown away
The sky is now a dark shade of grey
The days are short and stocky now
The wind blows constant a hardy growl
Outdoor tasks still need to be done
Broken pumpkins on the lawn
I guess I’ll clean the carpet today
Burn the papers, put laundry away
Men out hunting whitetail deer
Armed and dangerous they have no fear
Dressed up in their camouflage
Beer and meat stashed in their lodge
Innocent animals “Run for your lives!”
I’ll hang out with the hunting wives
We’ll stalk down all the sales galore
Living lives within the stores
Charge what we want, what will they say?
The cost of hunting dear, time to pay
It’s a costly sport but lots of fun
At least the Christmas shopping is done.
So when you eat your venison steak
Remember, the cost was only $198 (per pound, that is)
I reckon this is two separate poems, Shirley …or Hunting Season Parts 1 and 2
Part 1 – subtitled ‘Us’
After ‘put the laundry away’ you need another ‘domestic type’ verse (maybe about the shopping) to complete this and then,
Part 2 -subtitled ‘Them’
‘Men out hunting….’
